Clinical observation and antibiotic susceptibility analysis of Chlamydia trachomatis infection

2008
Objective To observe the clinical feature of Chlamydia trachomatis(Ct) infection and detect the susceptibility of frequently used antibiotics towards Ct so as to provide guidance for the treatment of Ct infection. Methods Record clinical features and complications of 62 Ct patients, and detect Ct and apply antibiotic susceptibility test towards urethral secretions. Results Among the 62 Ct patients, the main clinical manifestations were red swelling, burning sensation, serous or sero-purulent secretions on the urethral orifice(42 cases,67.7%),accompanied by odynuria, frequent and urgent micturition(15 cases,24.2%).In addition,Ct infection often coexisted with infections from other pathogenic microorganism, such as mycoplasma urealytium(15 cases,24.2%),gonorrhea and genital herpes(9 cases,14.5%).The result of susceptibility test from 9 kinds of antibiotics showed that the drug resistance to minocycline was the lowest(7.4%),and to ciprofloxacin was the highest(79.3%).In general, the drug resistances to quinolones and macrolides were higher than others, with a rate of 73.4% and 53% respectively. Conclusion Chlamydia trachomatis is an important non-gonococcal urethritis pathogen, and should be screened seriously.Patients with unhealthy history of sexual life, especially with red swelling, burning sensation, serous or sero-purulent secretions on the urethral orifice, odynuria, and frequent and urgent micturition, should detect Ct towards urethral secretion as soon as possible. With the extensive usage of antibiotics and drug abuse by doctors, drug resistance becomes higher in Chlamydia trachomatis infection than ever, especially for quinolones and macrolides antibiotics. Therefore, the choice of antibiotics should rely on drug sensitivity test but not empirical medication.
