Effect of sowing time and plant type on pod borer incidence and grain yield in some pigeonpea genotypes

2001
Pigeonpea pod borer damage and grain yield were significantly influenced by sowing dates and cultivars. Early sowing resulted in lower incidence of lepidopteran podborers viz., Maruca testulalis, Exelastis atomosa and Helicoverpa armigera while late sowing caused lower incidence of dipteran podfly viz., Melanagromyza obtusa. Lepidopteran pod borer damage was low in determinate varieties as compared to indeterminate varieties while susceptibility of dipteran podfly was low in determinate varieties as compared to indeterminate. Highest grain yield was recorded in early sowing of indeterminate varieties.
