Optimizing Design of Transformers Used in Railway Traction

2020
This research aims at reducing the exploitation costs for transformers used in electrical locomotives. The active and reactive electrical energy losses in these transformers are high, because they work with high electromagnetic stresses, imposed by certain gauge conditions. That is why, this paper reveals that this exploitation cost can be reduced by an optimal design of this transformer, taking also into account the restrictive conditions (gauge dimensions, short-circuit voltage. For example, in case of the transformer rated at 5500 kVA of the electrical locomotive, by an optimal design, the exploitation cost has been reduced with Ce= 14.53%= 67000 €, as against the existing transformer. The simulations carried out and presented justify the optimum constructive solution we have proposed.
