Oil and gas developments in Ohio during 1963

1964 
The most important oil and gas developments in Ohio during 1963 were (1) the discovery and development of substantial oil reserves in the Copper Ridge (Trempealeauan) Dolomite of Morrow County (2) the development of significant gas reserves in the "Clinton" (Albion Sandstone) of Portage County. Total number of new wells amounted to 1,155, of which 218 were gas wells, 530 were oil wells, and 407 were dry holes. Total footage drilled was 3,070,369 ft. Exploratory drilling accounted for 207 tests (17.9% of new holes and 22.0% of total footage) with 14 gas wells, 27 oil wells, and 166 dry holes. Leasing and seismic activity increased over 1962. Annual production was 6,039,000 bbls. of oil and 38,500,000 MCF of natural gas.
