E-mail: sheilanribeiro@hotmail.com The use of cardiopulmonary bypass technique becomes necessary for the surgical treatment of various disorders as atrial septal defects and ventricular, pulmonary and aortic stenosis, tetralogy of Fallot and valvular diseases and despite complications related to CPB, some studies indicate the technique to be applied as feasible. In Brazil, the CEC in routine veterinary care not yet been achieved with success due to this factor, it was evaluated the physiological changes caused to the body of dogs undergoing CPB with pediatric model. Four dogs were used, previously evaluated clinically and laboratory for their sanity. All dogs underwent CPB for 30 minutes at normothermia, and kept in constant monitoring for parameters hemogasometric made from venous blood samples, using cartridges CG4 (pH, pCO2 , PO2 , Total CO2 , HCO3 , lactate, SpO2 ). It was observed progressive decrease in pH and bicarbonate, the opposite of what happened with the lactate values. The tissue oxygenation during and after CPB was significantly reduced and there was an increase in the pO2 and ratios of CO2 . As conclusion the CPB caused damage to the animal organism that difficult the postoperative survival.
