Interference Fits. Bearing Capacity Under Complex Loading – FEM Analysis

2020
Interference fits are dimensioned by calculating the necessary contact pressure for transmitting axial and/or tangential loadings. The FEM simulations presented in the paper aim to learn if the vector composition law of loadings is also fit for contact pressures. An interference fit Φ30H7/r6 is analyzed. The analytical relationships for pressure and bearing capacity under simple loading are validated by FEM analysis. Under combined loading, axial and tangential, the simulations show that vector composition of pressures is not valid. For the pressure resulted from a given interference, the fit born 100% of axial (tangential) loading and 80% of tangential (axial) loading. These results recommend a FEM analysis for each case, in order to avoid unnecessary high pressure and stress of materials.
