Study on Circulation Substructure in the Main Part of the Kuroshio in the East China Sea

2006
In this paper,a physical pattern of subcirculation system in the main part of the Kuroshio in the East China Sea is suggested by analyzing different survey data, and the subcirculation system is a double-loop circulation structure consisting of a relatively stable main stream of the Kuroshio,a frequently occu-ring right side countercurrent and a conditionally occurring outer shelf countercurrent.Part of the Kuroshio water from the north part of the Kuroshio main stream flows into the shelf area to form the outer shelf countercurrent,or turns to flow into the sea area east of the Kuroshio to form the right side countercurrent;part of shelf water coming from the outer shelf countercurrent flows into the Kuroshio from the south part of the Kuroshio main stream to close the outer shelf branch of double-loop structure, and most of the Kuroshio right side countercurrent water forms anti-cyclonic flow and returns to the Kuroshio main stream to close the east branch of double-loop structure.
