MONITORING OF WATER QUALITY INDICATORS FOR IMPROVING WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT OF BAHLUI RIVER

2011
With the aim of water quality classification for Bahlui River, the most important water quality indicators, such as: COD and BOD5, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, fixed residue, total suspended matter, chloride and sulfate were analyzed during the summer of 2010. Based on the above mentioned indicators, the water quality could be classified into the III rd class of quality, which means that the Bahlui River water can be used for irrigations only. Among various specific indicators, Zn(II), total iron (Fe(II) +Fe(III)), total chromium (Cr(III) +Cr(VI)), Cd(II), Ni(II) and Pb(II) have been analyzed. The results concerning the total content of iron exceed the maximum admitted limit established by water quality classes, which means that anthropogenic factor plays an important role in the pollution of Bahlui River, especially due to the industrial activities.
