U.S. Air Force Operational Medicine: Using the Enterprise Estimating Supplies Program to Develop Materiel Solutions for the Air Force Optometry Augmentation Team (FFDOT)

2010
Abstract : The Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) has used its modeling and simulation (M&S) expertise to develop and update conventional U.S. Air Force medical assets since 2004. This study leveraged medical M&S to provide recommendations for allowance standard configurations for the Air Force Optometry Augmentation Team (FFDOT) operational and clinical requirements. The result is an operationally based and patient-driven recommended 917Q line list. Unit Type Code capabilities, operational requirements, and materiel solutions were identified, and issues of modernization, clinical requirement, standardization, and redundancy were addressed. Total changes resulted in a reduction in weight by 31%, cube by 22%, and cost by 4%, or $9,500.
