The Expansion Coefficients and Modulus of Steel Corrosion Products

2016
Because steel corrosion not only directly induces the cracking of the concrete cover but also participates in mechanical interactions during the concrete cover cracking process, this chapter investigates the composition, expansion coefficient, and elastic modulus of steel corrosion products. The rust expansion coefficients corresponding to the different environments are proposed, with humidity and oxygen supplementation considered the most influential factors. The magnitude of the apparent modulus for steel corrosion products is suggested to be 100 MPa, which can be used in the model of concrete cracking induced by steel corrosion.
