Analysis on Damage Causes for S-type Water Pipe of Converter Valve

2018
A water leakage accident occurred in the S-type cooling water pipe of the converter valve that has been put into operation at the Suidong Converter Station, causing damage to the valve layer device, resulting in equipment outage and affecting the normal operation of the entire converter station. In order to explore the reason of damage caused by the cooling water pipe, and provide corresponding solutions, the causes of the damage to the cooling water pipe may be analyzed and eliminated one by one. It is found that the most likely cause of the damage is that the voltage equalizing electrode line and the cooling water pipe are too close. The air field between the two is severely discharged. This paper to analyzes the cause of the accident from the perspective of discharge, and then simplifies the equivalent modeling of the cooling water pipe and the equalizing electrode wire, and performs the electric field simulation. The simulation results show that when the distance between the cooling water pipe and the equalizing electrode line is small, the air field of the two will generate severe power, to damage the cooling water pipe.
