Matched BlockDetection andMotion Vector Salvage Methods forFastH.264/AVC Inter ModeDecision

InH.264advanced videocoding(AVC),variable blocksizemotionestimation playsanimportant roleinthe compression ofinter framestoincrease videoquality and codingefficiency. However,thecomputation forinter prediction isalsosubstantially increased aswell. Inthis paper, we propose a fastinter modedecision algorithm basedon matchedblockdetection andmotion vector salvage schemeto helptoearly terminate thedecision process toreduce needless computation. Experimental results showthattheproposed algorithm cansavefrom10%to60% computation forinter modedecision withfast motion search without introducing any noticeable performance degradation.
