H 2 O 2 PRODUCTION BY HEMOCYTES AS A METHOD OF EVALUATING THE DEFENSIVE CAPACITY OF SCALLOPS UNDER CULTURE

1990
ABSTRACT: Hydrogen peroxide production by hemocytes of the scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis , in various sown culture areas in Hokkaido, Japan, was ascertained. As a result, it has been demonstrated that the healthiest scallops produced the highest level of H 2 O 2 . Thus, it is proposed that the measurement of H 2 O 2 production by scallop hemocytes could be employed as an indicator of the health of the animal maintained in mariculture.
