Emission characteristics of nano additive-biodiesel blends in diesel engine
2020
Biodiesel extracted from neem oil is an excellent alternative fuel, non-edible, renewable in nature. The nanoparticle is added to neem oil to examine the emission parameters. Titanium Oxide(TiO2) is selected as nanoparticle in powder form. TiO2 is chosen due to its catalytic effect and higher surface to volume area. Using Sol-gel method TiO2 was synthesised. The Average size of TiO2 is 60nm. TiO2 nanoparticle is doped to neem oil biodiesel(B100) by 100 and 200ppm. Nanoparticle blends with biodiesel are represented to be B100T100 and B100T200. Test fuels used for the experiment are diesel, B100, B100T100, B100T200. The addition of nanoparticle to neem oil biodiesel shows a significant reduction in carbon monoxide(C0), hydrocarbon(HC), and NOX emission.
