A Lightweight Authentication Stream Cypher Mechanism for Industrial Internet of Things
2020
Cyber security is becoming an increasingly critical issue in automated manufacturing process and particularly for production control engineering. Cyber security in manufacturing process has a massive impact on production management and control systems with the potential effects ranging from production failure, performance degradation to the loss of confidential data. Since smart manufacturing competencies to predicate on levels of technical sophistication, automation and integration far beyond conventional manufacturing processes. There will be new vulnerable points and the lack of cyber security protection need to be concern. Moreover, as networking in process automation grows, there is a greater risk of cyber attacks from network channels. This paper proposed a lightweight method of industrial data encryption transmission and device authentication by applied WG-8 stream cypher mechanism. By improving its pseudorandom number to protect the manufacturing facilities’ communication transmission. In order to comply with the actual manufacturing facilities, we utilize the Raspberry Pi3 B+ as experimental test bed for power consuming, real-time data transmission evaluation. The proposed mechanism evaluation result shows that the WG-8 encryption algorithm will lead Raspberry Pi3 central processing unit (CPU) utilization increased 40%, but it empower secure communication and facilities authentication in industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
