Evaluation of the Economic Loss Caused by Flood and Drought Disasters in the Pan-Pearl River Delta
2006
The economic loss brought by flood and drought disasters in the Pan-Pearl River Delta(PPRD) is analyzed and evaluated. The results show that flood and drought are the major natural disasters that cause direct economic loss in the region.Generally the loss caused by flood is larger than that by drought. In recent years the total economic loss caused by those disasters tends to increase in the provinces of the PPRD.The disasters have been the restricted factors to regional economic development. The authors suggest that investment be increased in disaster forecast and disaster reduction, and coordination and cooperation among the provinces of the PPRD on natural disaster reduction be strengthened.
