Abstract This article explores new methodological advances in site-recording and ceramic studies in archaeological surveys. The accessibility and easy use of drone technology now enables us not only to acquire high resolution images of targeted sites, but also to collect data that can be used to create digital elevation models and contour maps through the use of photogrammetry and GIS based applications. As part of the Amuq Valley Regional Project, five sites which yielded 2 nd millennium BC levels were selected for a study focused on characterization of lower-town formations, settlement expansion and documentation of sites affected by modern destruction. The ceramic collections retrieved from these five sites were also evaluated on the basis of the new 2 nd millennium BC ceramic typology acquired from recent excavations conducted in the region, thereby contributing to preliminary data collection and analysis for a better understanding of the settlement patterns of the Amuq Valley during the 2 nd millennium BC. Key words: Amuq Valley, Settlement Archaeology, Middle Bronze Age, Late Bronze Age, Pottery, Mapping, Photogrammetry.
