The Practical Observational Astronomy of Rakutou High School in 2013: Simultaneous Spectroscopic and Photometric Observations of a Cataclysmic Variable Star EM Cyg

2014
We performed observations of EM Cyg for 2 night from 2013 May 24 to 25 as the practical trainings of observational astronomy for students of the Natural-Science Club of Rakutou High School. Our spectroscopic observations were carried out using the spectrograph MALLS mounted on the 2m Nayuta telescope at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory. We use a lowresolution mode; the wavelength range and the resolution are 4500 ◦ A – 7000 ◦ A and R ∼ 1000, respectively. For photometric observations, we planed two-band photometry using the 60cm telescope (Rc-band) at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory and the 51cm telescope (Ic-band) at Osaka Kyoiku University. We were not able to obtain available data by the 60cm telescope, because the CCD camera of the telescope had troubles during our observations. We obtained light curves of EM Cyg from the data by the 51cm telescope, and we estimate some physical parameters of the object. Furthermore, we determined that the doppler velocity of Hα is about 1400 km s−1 from the FWHM. We try to compare the difference of Hα profiles for each orbital phase. In this paper, we show the procedure for our practical observations for students of our school.
