Expanding access to safe abortion : Stratetigies for action

1998
In the first section of this brochure we briefly describe the overall context in which abortion occurs. The two following sections analyze the agreements which have been concluded during the international conferences and the provisions of treaties in terms of individual rights which may be invoked to plead in favor of access to risk-free abortion services. The last section describes strategies currently in used in a large cross-section of the country. The appendices provide references that are easy to consult for the most pertinent paragraphs of the international agreements and treaties in terms of individual rights. To make abortion safe in all countries the defenders legislators and decision-makers must create a political will and healthcare and family planning agents must instill the will in professionals to change laws and to do what is necessary so that good quality services are within reach and accessible. We hope that you will join with us in ridding the world of the unsustainable scenes such as I have seen in Cameroon. (excerpt)
