PROBABILISTIC FOUNDATION SETTLEMENT ON SPATIALLY RANDOM SOIL. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE

A discussion of an earlier paper with the aforementioned title by G.A. Fenton and D.V. Griffiths, published in this journal (Volume 128, Number 5, May 2002), is presented. The discussers thank the authors for providing an interesting and creative addition to the understanding of uncertainties in behavior of foundations, and add an additional complementary comment of their own to the paper's findings relating to performance of statistical analyses of differential settlement. Closure from the authors on the discussers' contribution to the settlement problem is included.
