Successful use of mycophenolate mofetil and prednisone in a 14-year-old girl with acquired hemophilia A.

2005
Acquired hemophilia A is a rare disease caused by autoantibodies to factor (F) VIII. It usually affects elderly patients resulting in serious bleeding complications. Whereas acute bleeding is often successfully treated by activated prothrombin complexes or recombinant factor VIIa, long term eradication therapy of the inhibitor remains a matter of debate in the absence of prospective controlled trials. We here describe the case of a 14-year-old girl in whom a FVIII autoantibody has been successfully treated by a relatively mild immunosuppressive regimen including mycophenolate mofetil.
