Child and adolescent psychiatry in Greece

1999
The field of child psychiatry in Greece has been repeatedly redefined in recent years and has been accepted as covering “the diagnosis, therapeutic management and rehabilitation of psychopathological and developmental disturbances of childhood and adolescence, together with the promotion of mental health more generally among children, adolescents, and their families”. In Greece, the term that has come to be used for the discipline is “child psychiatry” (one word in Greek), but it is taken for granted that this also covers adolescence.“Psychotherapy” is not included in the title. The age range is defined as 0–18 years. In practice, it is accepted that in the 16–18 year age group there may be an overlap with adult psychiatry.
