A preliminary investigation of Trypanosoma evansi infection in Guangxi water buffaloes.

2009
The antibody dynamics and parasitemia of Trypanosoma evansi in experimentally infected buffaloes were studied.Antibodies in the blood could be detected six day after infection and then maintained at a comparatively high level(OD450nm0.3).This result indicated that a early diagnoses and routine inspection by ELISA for T.evansi infection in buffaloes is possible.A peakperiod about 2 to 3 weeks of parasitemia was observed after infection, and then drop sharply to a very low-level.A preliminary investigation was conducted by ELISA on 79 serum samples from part region of Guangxi and 23 serum samples were detected positive(29.1 %).These results proved that T.evansi infection of buffaloes is prevalent in the region of Guangxi.
