Method for producing p-phenylenebis (trimellitic acid monoester anhydride)

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for economically and efficiently producing high-purity TMHQ (trimellitic acid monoester acid anhydride) (p-phenylene-bis). SOLUTION: The method for producing the p-phenylene-bis (trimellitic acid monoester acid anhydride) by reacting an acid chloride of trimellitic anhydride with hydroquinone in the presence of a base includes using acetonitrile as a reaction solvent. As a result, a water-washing operation for removing a by-produced hydrochloride is made unnecessary, and a treating operation for returning a hydrolyzed product to an original material is also made unnecessary.
