Zinc-sulfur single-flow battery system

2015
The invention provides a zinc-sulfur single-flow battery system. The zinc-sulfur single-flow battery system is composed of a cell module formed by one or more than one monocells in series connection, an electrolyte storage tank, a circulating pump and a circulation pipeline, wherein each monocell comprises a positive electrode and a negative electrode; the positive electrode is composed of a matrix and a positive electrode material located on the matrix; the positive electrode material is elemental sulfur; the negative electrode is a zinc-deposited electrode; and during charging, the elemental sulfur in the positive electrode undergoes a solid-solid conversion reaction so as to produce zinc sulfide, and zinc ions on the negative electrode is directly deposited in the form of elemental zinc; and during discharging, zinc sulfide undergoes a solid-solid conversion reaction so as to produce the elemental sulfur. Since the positive electrodes and the negative electrodes of the monocells undergo solid-solid conversion and solid-liquid conversion reactions and an ion exchange membrane is not needed, the zinc-sulfur single-flow battery system has the characteristics of high security, high energy density, long cycle life, low cost, and simple structure and manufacturing process.
