An impact evaluation of the sound bank management program and banking system development program in the former Soviet Union (1992-1997) : evaluation report

This report is an evaluation of these two large World Bank Institute (WBI)-sponsored training programs, Sound Bank Management (SBM) and Banking System Development (BSD), which occurred in the former Soviet Union (FSU) between 1992 and 1997 and which were designed to assist in the launching of the commercial banking system. This report reviews the evaluative methodology for the study (chapter two), provides a summary of the feedback gathered from participants in the SBM program (chapter three) and the BSD program (chapter four), and makes recommendations for each of them. It also reviews the materials that were developed for the two programs and comments on their sustainability WBI's exit in 1997 (chapter five).
