Research on stress measurement in butt-welding of aluminium alloy plates based on fiber Bragg grating sensors

2013
Currently, using strain gauge or other electrical measuring sensor is the most common method to monitor temperature and stress in butt-welding of welded structures. But the measurement accuracy of this method is not high and the operability of that is also poor. So a new way of temperature and stress measurement in butt-welding of aluminium alloy plates based on fiber bragg grating sensors is proposed, and the cross-sensitivity in temperature and stress measurement is settled by installing an additional FBG sensor for temperature compensation. On these bases, the distribution of temperature and stress measurement in butt-welding are obtained and detailed analyzed though the ANSYS simulation and experimental research. Experimental results and simulation results are basically similar, which reveals that stress on-line monitoring in butt-welding of aluminium alloy plates using fiber bragg grating sensors is feasible, and fiber sensing monitoring technology in the welded structures of on-line monitoring has a wide application prospects.
