VIA : Simple & Economical Screening Method For CA Cervix -

Introduction : VIA involves naked eye examination of 3% acetic acid swabbed cervix without any magnification but just with bright light source such as a halogen lamp. Material and Method : We stained 400 women, and biopsy with HPE was done for positive results with acetic acid. Result : 61i.e. 15.25 % women were positive with acetic acid. HPE revels majority were suffering with chronic cervicitis and only two patients were of invasive cancer. Discussion : VIA screening test is simple to use, cost effective, specific to distinguishing non specific changes and can detect disease in a stage where early treatment will provide a superior prognosis. It is possible to train providers to detect acetowhite lesions with naked eyes. Conclusion : VIA is valuable screening method for diagnosis of ca cervix for population at large and in low resource settings.
