SINGLE PHOTON EMISSION CT AND POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY IN THE EVALUATION OF NEUROLOGIC DISEASE

2001
As brain imaging using single photon emission CT (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) has become more widely available, the clinical indications for performing these studies have also shown a proportionate increase in growth. Current guidelines of a number of professional societies have added SPECT and PET in the work-up for a variety of disease states. 86,148 The increasing popularity of both PET and SPECT can be attributed to a number of technologic advances relating to radiotracer and instrumentation development.
