Cyclic ADP-Ribose and Calcium Signalling

1998
It is over 100 years since calcium was first implied as an intracellular regulator in heart by Ringer (1882). Since then its universal role as a regulator has become a cornerstone of cell physiology (Campbell 1983), and much progress has been made in our understanding of cellular calcium homeostasis and the way in which cellular stimuli are transduced into transient elevations in intracellular free calcium, here defined as calcium signals.
