Application of High Frequency Ultrasound in Diagnosing Radiation Cataract

2009
[Objective] To explore the possibility of ultrasound in diagnosing radiation cataract.[ Methods] Using 7.5 MHz high frequency ultrasonic probe, shape and interior echoes of 36 lenses of radiational cataract eyes from 18 cases were examined.Their ultrasonic characteristics were analyzed.[ Results] The ultrasonic appearences of radiational cataract might be classified into three stages:immature stage, mature stage and complete stage. The accuracy of sonography diagnosis was 94.44%.[Conclusion] The turbidity of the lens may be completely recognised with high frequency ultrasound. It is an effective way of diagnosing radiation cataract.
