Calculating the aortic valve force and generated power by a specific cardiac assist device (AVICENA) in different counterpulsation

2018
AVICENA is a specific cardiac assist device which is used in the cases with left ventricular failure and implanted in the aorta that can pump the blood flow with more strength into the circulatory system. Although this device can increase the power of blood flow by its inflation and deflation, it may apply some extra force to the aortic valve while working in the heart. This study aims at investigating these amounts of generated power and aortic valve force in different patterns of device counterpulsation using FSI. In this study, only six different displacement factor curves applied to the balloon as well as only one boundary condition applied to the inlet and outlet of the aorta are considered. The outcome of this study helps to improve the design of this device in a way that it may produce more power and less force on the aortic valve.
