Compact planar UWB antenna with triple band-notched characteristics for WIMAX/WLAN/ITU bands

2012
A novel planar ultra-wideband antenna with triple band-notched characteristic at 3.45/5.5/8.2 GHz bands is proposed and discussed in this paper. The essence of the design strategy is embedding three notching slots onto the primitive antenna to serve as respective stop band filters. By embedding two arc-shaped slots on the radiating patch, two notched bands of (WIMAX) 3.3–3.6 GHz and (WLAN) 5.1–5.9 GHz are obtained. And by employing a curve-shaped slot on the defected ground plane, another notched band of (ITU8.0) 8.025–8.4 GHz is gained. Surface current distributions are used to analyze the effect of these slots. Owing to the optimization to minimize the level of cross-coupling among these slots, the proposed antenna has been successfully simulated, fabricated, and measured. The proposed antenna shows broadband impedance match and good omnidirectional radiation pattern with compact size, expect for the notched bands. The center frequencies and bandwidths of the notches can be adjusted by altering the para...
