Magnetic Water Cut Sensor

The accurate measurement of multiphase flow composition is needed by many process industries, including the oil and gas sector. Traditionally, such measurements are performed by separating the phases into individual streams and then measuring each phase by a single-phase meter. Many methods have been proposed to measure the component fraction in oil and gas (O&G) well streams, however, low accuracies, poor reliability and need for frequent recalibration limit their wider use. This paper describes a novel electromagnetic composition sensor, including its theory of operation and experimental results, which, in combination with our previously developed capacitive sensor, offers an improved characteristic over the current commercial systems.
