Ellagic Acid Nanoemulsion in Cosmetics: The Preparation and Evaluation of a New Nanoemulsion Method as a Whitening and Antiaging Agent

2018
In this article, we present our development of a new type of oil-in-water whitening nanoemulsion (NE) for ellagic acid (EA) using a low-energy emulsification method. The aqueous solubility of EA , a virtually nonwater-soluble compound, was significantly improved, which increased its permeability through the skin and thereby intensified its whitening effect. We assessed NE stability by measuring the diameter and zeta potential of the obtained products. The average NE particle size was 24.28 nm, and the zeta potential was -2.93 mV. Through studying the inhibition rate of tyrosinase, the free-radical-scavenging rate, and the antiaging test, we evaluated the effect of EA NE on skin whitening, antiaging, and safety.
