Possibilities of redesigning the louvre separator in the air mixing duct of a thermal plant using numerical simulation

2014
This paper presents the results of multiphase flow numerical simulations in ventilation mill-mixing duct with louvers separator of Kostolac B power plant (Serbia). Simulations are performed using both the mixture model of the Euler-Euler approach and Euler-Lagrange approach of ANSYS FLUENT software package. The gas mixture distribution at the burner feed ducts obtained by the Euler-Euler mixture model is in a good agreement with the experiment, but this model gives the large differences between the calculated and measured pulverised coal distribution. Much better agreement of the coal distribution at the burners is obtained using the Euler-Lagrange approach with discrete phase model (DPM). It is noticed that, due to the narrow gaps between the louvers, only a small fraction of the pulverised coal passes through the gaps. The DPM model is used in redesign louvers separators geometry, to obtain optimal distribution of the pulverised coal at the burners.
