Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation in treatment of twelve eyes with glaucoma after vitrectomy:a clinical study
2010
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation for glaucoma following vitrectomy surgery. Methods Twelve patients(12 eyes) who had been diagnosed with glaucoma after vitrectomy and phacoemulsification surgery due to retina detachment were selected in this study. The 12 eyes were treated with Ahmed glaucoma valve implant surgery, and the patients were followed up for(4.7±1.2) months(ranging 3-6 months). Results The mean intraocular pressure decreased from(40.5±10.2) mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) before the implant surgery(ranging 30.5-50.7 mmHg) to(13.5±4.3) mmHg after the surgery(ranging 8.0-21.0 mmHg).The successful rate of the implant surgery was 100%.Two eyes had obstruction of drainage tube 2 weeks after the surgery and were recanalized after rinsing, with no other complications. Conclusion Ahmed glaucoma valve implant is effective and safe for glaucoma after vitrectomy.(Shanghai Med J,2010,33: 191-193)
