EXPOSURE AND RISK OF MOTORCYCLIST IN MALAYSIA

This article reports the results of a national survey of exposure for motorcyclists in Malaysia. 1,247respondents from 14 states in Malaysia completed the postcard survey which included questions regardingodometer reading and any history of crash. The aim of the analysis is to describe the relationship betweenriding exposure and accidents in Malaysia. The annual average kilometre travelled (AAKT) based on thenumber of respondents, is 16,477 km. The mean accident rate based on respondent accident history is 1.39accidents per 100,000km. The risk analyses were identified and risk elements involved in an accidentwere quantified (gender, age, state, occupation, income, purpose of motorcycle and engine size). Thispaper provides knowledge and understanding about motorcycle exposure and risks in Malaysia.
