ADBF at subarray level using a generalized sidelobe canceller

2009
ADBF is one of crucial techniques for phased array radar, which generally contains thousands of element. It usually adopts subarray configuration and can get only digital outputs of subarrays. Direct subarray weighting(DSW) configuration based on linearly constrained minimum-variance(LCMV) is an effective solution for ADBF, while the performance degrades in the presence of array imperfections such as amplitude and phase errors. Generalized sidelobe canceller(GSLC) is insensitive to those errors and can implement a wide variety of linearly constrained adaptive array processors with simple hardware differencing amplifiers. This paper studies an implementation method at subarray level for GSLC and compares the performance of GSLC to that of DSW in the cases of errors and no errors. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective even when DSW lose beam shape in the presence of array imperfections.
