2020
The preoccupation with bodily self-image has grown, for beauty has acquired a meaning of acceptance or social rejection. This preoccupation with aesthetic standards at excessive levels has arisen because of the culture of "good form" and the countless advertisements that associate the perfect body with success. This research aimed to verify the relationship between aesthetic procedures and the degree of body image satisfaction and self - esteem of women. The sample consisted of 90 women, aged between 18 and 60 years, divided into three groups. Group 1 was composed of university students who did not use aesthetic resources and did not practice physical exercises, group 2 by women performing aesthetic procedures and group 3 by women who exercised regularly. The Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale and the Body Image Satisfaction Scale were used, as well as an identification questionnaire to identify the motivations for physical exercise, aesthetic procedures, satisfaction with body image, media influence self-esteem and self-image, among others. A significant and positive association between self-esteem and body image satisfaction, and lower averages in self-esteem, satisfaction with weight and appearance of participants who reported dissatisfaction with their own body were identified. The results are discussed in the light of the literature. We conclude the importance of the study for the performance of the professional of psychology and the absence of studies on the subject in the Brazilian literature.
