Chapter 4 – Conclusion

2017
Anodic oxidation of Catechol (CT) in the presence of Thiosemicarbazide (TSC) has been investigated by CV and controlled-potential coulometry. The results show that CT is oxidized to quinone. Quinone takes part in a Michael addition reaction with TSC. The results also show that quinoid can be used as a mediator in the determination of TSC. The proposed method indicates that a cost effective and less labor intensive analysis is possible. The proposed method is considered as a selective method for the voltammetric detection of TSC. The method also can be applied for accurate determination of TSC in pharmaceutical preparations and water samples. Two notable modified electrodes have also been proposed and studied in this research namely P4VP/MWCNT–GCE and P4VP/GR–GCE.
