The design of array antenna based on multi-modal OAM vortex electromagnetic wave

2016
The research on orbital angular momentum (OAM) grows into a hot topic in electromagnetic and wireless communication field owing to its higher spectrum efficiency compared with the conventional multiplexing technology. This paper proposes a new way that the technology of OAM and circular polarization are combined into the design of array antenna. Eight circular polarized corner cutting micro-strip patch antenna elements are arranged equidistantly along the circumference to form a novel multi-modal OAM micro-strip array antenna which can generate electromagnetic waves with dual characteristics of circular polarization and multi-modal vortex OAM (where OAM modes are l = 0, l = ±1, l = ±2, l = ±3). This array antenna works at 2.45 GHz frequency band, which is suitable for the most popular traditional Wi-Fi, ZigBee and Bluetooth communication. Finally, the development prospects of multi-modal OAM vortex electromagnetic array antenna in microwave and millimeter wave band are forecasted.
