A CRITICAL STUDY ON THE USE OF 'DISTANCE' IN MAHESH DUTTANI'S PLAY TARA

Mahesh Dattani frequently takes as his subject the complicated dynamics of the modern urban family. In each of his plays Dattani has dealt with domestic problems which generally remain unnoticed though they cause considerable damage to the happiness of the family. The play 'Tara‟, a well considered domestic tragedy is replete with so many different themes and issues including gender bias, family relationships, objectivity of artist, isolation, revelation, projection of memory etc. My contention in the paper is to demonstrate how the term 'distance‟ effects and can be applied more or less in various ways to all of these sensational issues and themes.
