Radio-Frequency Acquisition nd Coordination or merican Inte Transpo~tation Systems (ITS)

This paper will discuss the §~~c~rum acquisition activities that are underway in North America, and the spectrum management activities that are occurring in the regulatory agencies that affect ITS spectrum acquisition. It will include a discussion of the specific spectrum requirements needed to support the 29 User Services that have been adopted by FHWA and ITS AMERICA, and outlines a strategy for meeting those needs through a balanced appraach that includes maximum use of existing communications networks as well as the acquisition of new spectrum for critical safety, warning and control functions.
