Lezersbrief : ‘Zelden vernemen we iets over alle goeds dat de politici doen’

2020
The popular weekly is publishing a series of interviews and enquetes of opinions and behaviour of youngsters, usually well-known figures. This article explains their rather disconcerting beliefs about a) their frequent belief in the existence of God; b) their lack of trust in our Belgian politicians. With respect of religion I point to the courses of religion followed by 3/4 of the Flemish youth, during 12 years. Concerning their disapproval of our politicians, this follows from the offensive vocabulary used daily by all media, and the generalizing negative judgments even by university professors; of which I give several examples. In contrast, little or no information is given about the programs of the parties, and that difficult negociations are due to diverging views on the economy, state intervention versus private enterprise, and on lower income versus high income voters, i.e. a different interpretation of the public interest. Media give no attention to government, i.e.political, achievements (schools and science, social security and health, social housing, roads, waterways and public transport, justice department and police).
