COMPUTER INTEGRATION OF CAD MODELLING AND ROBOTIZED SHOPFLOOR PRODUCTION SYSTEMS IN SHIPYARDS

1994
Design for production, early unit breakdown, high level of prefabrication, pre-outfitting, application of NC and robotics and quality control are key factors for an efficient completion of a shipbuilding project. A complete and consistent information system environment, or in other words CIM, is a required foundation. An operational CIM-system is a complex structure that in addition to the hardware and software also requires that new organizational routines and procedures are adapted. Thus, the system will in addition to isolated technical components also consist of the users, the management and their utilization of the multilateral relations necessary for the functionality. This paper focuses on the fact that in order to implement a system for integrated production and design in conjunction with organisational procedures, the production technology must be a central part.
