Production of polymer containing ammonium group

1993
PURPOSE: To produce a polymer containing ammonium groups easily at high yield by reacting an OH-functional group-containing polymer with a specific isocyanate to obtain a urethane compound, and reacting this urethane compound with a tertiary aliphatic amine. CONSTITUTION: (A) A 1 : an OH-functional group-containing polymer (hydroxy- ethyl cellulose or the like is favorable) is reacted with A 2 : an isocyanate of formula I (R is a 2-11C alkylene or arylene; X is a halogen) (2-chloroethyl isocyanate or the like is favorable) in an A 1 :A 2 molar ratio of 1:0.1 to 1:100, or preferably 1:0.5 to 1:80, and preferably in a suspension liquid comprising methylene chloride solvent or the like to obtain a urethane. (B) The urethane obtained in (A) is reacted with a tertiary aliphatic amine of formula II (R 1 -R 3 are each a 1-8C alkyl, a 5-6C cycloalkyl, or the like, R 1 and R 2 are each a 1-5C alkylene and form 3-6 membered ring with N) (trimethylamine, for example) in similar conditions to those in (A) to obtain the objective ammonium group- containing polymer.
