Relação da qualidade do sono com a qualidade de vida de adolescentes portadores de Diabetes Mellitus tipo 1

2019
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (DM1) is a chronic disease that affects a large number of teenagers today. Due to cases of nocturnal hypoglycemia as well as the treatment of DM1 itself, sleep quality and quality of life may be negatively influenced by the disease. The purpose of this study was to verify the relationship between sleep quality and the quality of life of adolescents with DM1. The study included 37 teenagers with DM1 at 5.9 ± 3.7 years, mean of 13.1 ± 1.7 years. Method: The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the WHOQOL-bref questionnaire were used. The relationship between sleep quality and quality of life was verified using Spearman's correlation. Results: Sleep quality was classified as good, with 8.1 ± 1.2 hours of sleep per night and 90.2 ± 5.7 of sleep efficiency. The total quality of life and the four domains (physical, psychological, social and environmental) were classified as satisfactory. There was a significant correlation (p> 0.02) between sleep quality and physical dominance. Conclusion: The teenagers participating in this study presented an excellent quality of sleep and quality of life, with special attention to the relationship between sleep quality and physical dominance.
