Adaptive suppression of road restraint systems

A vehicle includes a restraint system having at least two retaining means. A sensor detects a potential collision obstacle and outputs a signal representing a relative position of the potential impact of the obstacle to the vehicle. Processing means suppresses at least partially on the basis of the signal outputted by the at least one sensor signal, the activation of at least one of the retaining means.
