Effect ofurogastrone ongastric secretion andserum gastrin concentration inpatients with duodenal ulceration

1982
SUMMARYA one-hour infusion of0.25,ug/kg urogastrone administered tosevenpatients with duodenal ulceration resulted insignificant reduction ofbasal acidsecretion (p<005) butwas without significant effect onbasal pepsin andintrinsic factor secretion oronserumgastrin concentration. Inanother groupoffive patients withduodenal ulceration aone-hour infusion of urogastrone wasgiven onfive successive days. Onday1and5urogastrone wasadministered after establishing aplateau response tointravenous pentagastrin 1.2,ug/kg/h. A meanreduction of 65%inacid output during theurogastrone infusion wasseenonday1andthis wasmaintained during thenexthour. Onday5thepentagastrin-stimulated acid output wasless thanonday1and afurther significant decrease wasnoted after urogastrone. Pepsin andintrinsic factor output were alsosignificantly inhibited. Therewasnochange infasting serumgastrin orurogastrone
